Meaning
Administrative and technical approval marks the formal conclusion of the mould validation process and the transition to high volume production. This document confirms that the tool is capable of meeting the quality, cycle time, maintenance and output requirements of the project. A successful tool sign-off happens only after a successful pilot run and a full dimensional report.
Quality Specification
The moulder and the customer agree on a list of standards that the tool must meet before it is accepted. These criteria include the part appearance and the reliability of the ejection system. No tool sign-off can occur if the mould has leaks or if the parts show signs of burning or flashing.
Production Approval
Once the quality team approves the samples, the tool is released for full scale manufacturing. This transition ensures that the production floor is ready to handle the specific needs of the new mould. The tool sign-off process often includes a review of the spare parts list and the recommended maintenance schedule.
Liability Transfer
Formal acceptance usually triggers the final payment to the toolmaker and transfers the responsibility for the mould to the production department. If defects are found after the tool sign-off, the cost of the repairs may fall on the owner of the tool. Clear documentation of the tool condition at the time of approval prevents disputes between the supplier and the customer.
This legal and financial milestone is recorded in the project file as the point where the mould becomes an active asset for the company.
