Meaning
Systematic validation procedures establish the range of temperatures and pressures within which a mould produces acceptable parts. A process window qualification involves running the tool at various combinations of melt temperature, injection speed, pack pressure and hold time to find the edges of failure. This study ensures that the production process can absorb minor fluctuations in material or environment.
Parameter Limit
Identifying the points where flash or short shots occur defines the boundaries of the stable zone. If the melt temperature is too low, the resin might freeze before filling the cavity. If the pressure is too high, the mould might blow open or the part might stick.
Quality Threshold
Part dimensions and weight are measured at each step to ensure they stay within the required tolerances. The goal is to find a set of conditions where the part is perfect and remains so even if a variable drifts. This data forms the basis of the master setup sheet.
Stability Range
Stable processes operate in the center of the established window. A wide window allows for more variation in regrind content or ambient factory temperature without causing defects. Narrow windows require more sophisticated controllers and stricter material specifications.
