Meaning
Production stages in stretch blow molding involve a low-pressure air injection that expands the heated preform before the final high-pressure blow. Pre blow inflation shapes the material around the stretch rod to ensure uniform distribution of the plastic before it touches the cold mold walls.
Timing Precision
Coordination between the mechanical movement of the stretch rod and the start of the air flow is critical for part quality. If pre blow inflation occurs too early, the preform may pop or thin unevenly, whereas late inflation results in poor detail and thick bases.
Pressure Regulation
Controlled air volumes determine the diameter of the expanding bubble during the initial stretch. Molders adjust the settings for pre blow inflation to compensate for variations in preform temperature or resin viscosity across different batches.
Defect Prevention
Proper execution of this step eliminates off-center gates and thin spots in the bottle sidewalls. Pre blow inflation provides the necessary space for the polymer to orient biaxially which maximizes the clarity and strength of the final container. High-speed cameras are often used to monitor this phase and ensure that the bubble expands symmetrically.
This level of control is necessary for producing consistent, lightweight packaging.
