Meaning
A metal tag permanently affixed to the exterior of an injection mould identifies the legal owner of the tooling. Utilizing an engraved owner nameplate ensures that the mould is recognized as customer property even when stored in a third-party moulding facility. This permanent marker prevents the tool from being misidentified or seized during bankruptcy.
Technical Specification
The nameplate must be constructed of a durable material like stainless steel to survive the harsh environment of the moulding floor. It is secured to the mould base with rivets or screws in a recess to prevent damage during handling. The engraving must include the tool’s unique serial number and the owner’s legal name.
This physical detail is a primary piece of evidence in ownership disputes.
Operational Purpose
Operators and warehouse staff use the plate to track the asset within the factory. This clear identification helps prevent the tool from being used for unauthorized production runs. It also simplifies the process of auditing tooling assets across multiple contract manufacturers.
This asset management is a standard requirement for major OEMs.
Legal Protection
If the moulder defaults on a loan, the nameplate prevents the lender from asserting a lien on the tool. It alerts creditors that the asset does not belong to the debtor. This distinction is critical for a quick recovery in court.
