Meaning
Static mixing elements inserted into a runner system redistribute the temperature and shear layers of a polymer melt. Designed to eliminate thermal non-uniformity, melt flip rotators work by reorienting the high-shear material from the outer walls of the runner to the center of the flow channel. This redistribution creates a more homogeneous melt before the material enters the mould cavities.
By evening out the shear-induced temperature differences, these devices improve the consistency of multi-cavity parts.
Flow Equalization
Shear variations within the runner network can cause uneven filling in geometrically balanced moulds. By installing melt flip rotators, the processor reorganizes the hot and cold layers of the flow front. This action prevents the unbalanced filling that often occurs when the melt splits into secondary and tertiary runners.
Defect Reduction
Asymmetrical filling leads to variations in part dimensions and weight. Using melt flip rotators minimizes these differences, leading to a reduction in defects like warp or flash. This improvement is particularly beneficial for high-precision components used in the medical and automotive fields.
Tooling Efficiency
Optimizing the flow path from within the runner decreases the need for trial-and-error tool modifications. Integrating melt flip rotators into the hot runner manifold simplifies the start-up process for new moulds. This proactive design step reduces the time spent on adjusting steel dimensions to balance the flow.
