Meaning
Piezoelectric transducers installed within a tool provide real-time data on the internal conditions of the melt. An in cavity pressure sensor identifies the exact moment the cavity fills and the subsequent packing phase begins. This hardware detects variations in viscosity or machine performance that simple hydraulic pressure readings overlook.
Transducer Placement
Mounting locations behind ejector pins or directly in the cavity wall determine the accuracy of the signal. Direct contact with the melt provides the most sensitive reading. Indirect placement simplifies tool maintenance.
Switchover Control
Automatic timing of the transition from injection to packing relies on a specific pressure threshold rather than a fixed screw position. This method compensates for lot-to-lot variations in material viscosity. When the melt is thicker, the machine pushes harder to reach the set point, whereas thinner material triggers the switch earlier to prevent overfilling.
Constant pressure at the gate ensures that every shot experiences the same densification. Process stability improves because the machine reacts to what is happening inside the tool.
Yield Protection
Quality monitoring through peak pressure analysis allows the system to sort parts automatically. A reading that falls outside the defined window signals a short shot or a flash condition. Integrated systems eject these suspect parts without operator intervention.
