Meaning
Pressure generation in industrial polymer moulding occurs through the displacement of oil within a closed cylinder system. A hydraulic injection press converts fluid potential energy into mechanical force to advance a screw or ram. This force drives molten resin through a nozzle and into a prepared cavity at high velocity.
The device functions by maintaining consistent packing pressure until the gate freezes and the cooling cycle initiates. Precise control over this displacement determines the final density and dimensions of the moulded part.
Clamping Force
Proper tonnage requirements protect against flashing or short shots during the melt delivery sequence. These machines utilize large diameter hydraulic pistons to hold the mould halves together against the internal pressure of the injected melt. Exceeding the material specific pressure limit causes premature wear on the platens.
Insufficient force allows the molten polymer to escape the cavity parting line.
Melt Consistency
Velocity profiles governed by the hydraulic system dictate the shear rate applied to the resin as it moves through the barrel. Each hydraulic injection press relies on proportional valves to manage the volume of fluid reaching the injection cylinder. Variations in oil temperature alter the viscosity of the working fluid and shift the injection rate away from the target setpoint.
This drift creates inconsistencies in molecular orientation and leads to residual stress in the finished product.
Cycle Stability
Repeatable motion requires the integration of closed loop feedback sensors that monitor the piston position throughout the stroke. The controller compares the actual rate of advancement against the preprogrammed curve to make millisecond adjustments to valve openings. Stable performance depends on the purity and cooling capacity of the hydraulic fluid circulating within the internal circuit.
High duty cycles generate thermal energy that degrades the fluid over time and reduces the accuracy of the injection velocity. Constant monitoring of the pressure decay curves provides the data needed to adjust the machine settings when environmental conditions shift.
