Meaning
Automated measurement of melt pressure in the mould cavity or runner system throughout the entire injection cycle provides a stream of real-time process data. Through continuous pressure logging, a moulding machine records the filling, packing, and cooling stages of each part. These data streams reveal deviations that would otherwise remain hidden.
Cavity Monitoring
Sensors placed in the flow path record transient changes in melt viscosity during the high-speed injection phase. Utilizing continuous pressure logging allows the control system to detect premature gate freeze or unbalanced filling in multi-cavity moulds. This sensing helps prevent short shots or flash by triggering immediate machine adjustments or alarms.
A mold operator can then identify tool wear before it causes part defects.
Process Optimization
Moulding parameters are adjusted dynamically to maintain a stable cavity pressure profile. If the continuous pressure logging indicates a drop in pack pressure, the machine extends the hold phase to ensure uniform shrinkage. This stabilization reduces part rejection rates and optimizes cycle times.
Quality Control
Inspection of finished parts is automated by setting limits on the peak pressure. When continuous pressure logging shows an out-of-bounds curve, the machine automatically redirects that specific part to the scrap bin.
