Meaning
Transducer placement beyond the injection mould gate allows monitoring of the polymer melt pressure after it enters the cavity. Post gate sensing detects the precise moment the cavity fills while isolating that signal from the resistance offered by the runner system or the nozzle. This distinction enables production equipment to switch from velocity control to pressure control at the exact moment the plastic reaches the final region of the part.
Pressure Accuracy
Direct cavity pressure measurements eliminate the variability inherent in machine side hydraulic calculations. Variations in viscosity caused by batch to batch resin differences or fluctuating regrind levels often lead to short shots or flash when reliance stays solely on injection stroke position. A sensor situated past the gate ensures that the transition to packing occurs based on the actual material state inside the tool.
Process Control
Reliable cavity feedback minimizes the risk of dimensional drift across extended production runs. Moulders identify consistent cooling windows and shrinkage rates by observing the pressure decay curve provided by these probes. Deviations from the established peak pressure indicate a change in material flow or temperature that necessitates an immediate adjustment to the moulding sequence.
Moulding Economics
Tooling investment for these integrated sensors reduces the scrap rate associated with inconsistent part weight. Higher initial costs for instrumented plates pay back through the reduction in manual sampling and the elimination of redundant quality inspections. Accurate data from the cavity floor proves that the moulding cycle maintains the necessary material density without excessive clamp tonnage.
