Meaning
Precipitation hardened steel used for the construction of high precision injection moulds that require a mirror finish. It governs the durability and polish of the tool surface and stops applying when the mould is retired from the production line.
Steel Hardness
Uniform microstructure allows nak80 to reach a consistent hardness of 40 HRC without the need for additional heat treatment after machining. Such stability prevents the warping often seen in standard tool steels during the tempering cycle. The material arrives from the supplier in a pre-hardened state and maintains its properties even after heavy milling.
Constant hardness through the entire block ensures that the core and the surface react identically to stress.
Machinability Factor
Nickel and aluminium alloys within the metal provide excellent cutting properties and allow for intricate detailing. Because nak80 contains no sulfur, it maintains a clean surface that is ideal for electrical discharge machining and complex ribbing. This cleanliness reduces the time spent on manual benching and hand finishing.
Tool life is extended by the lack of abrasive inclusions.
Surface Texture
Superior polishing characteristics enable the production of mirror finishes on the final plastic part. A moulder selects this grade when the application requires high clarity or a high gloss aesthetic. The absence of inclusions ensures that the textured surface remains uniform across the entire cavity.
