Meaning
Periodic adjustment resets the baseline of a measurement system to a true null value. Technicians perform zero point drift calibration to account for small changes in sensor output that occur without any applied load. These shifts often result from temperature changes in the mould or mechanical stress on the sensor housing.
The process ensures that every cycle begins from a consistent reference point.
Offset Correction
Software adds or subtracts a value from the sensor signal to bring the reading back to zero. This happens automatically at the start of every shot while the mould is open and empty. Without zero point drift calibration, the pressure readings would slowly climb or fall over several hours of production.
Measurement Reliability
Consistent data is the foundation of automated quality monitoring. If the zero point is not calibrated, the system cannot accurately compare the current shot to the reference curve. This leads to false alarms and unnecessary scrap.
Maintenance Frequency
Regular checks are required to ensure the drift remains within acceptable limits. If the zero point drift calibration requires a large adjustment every cycle, it may indicate a failing sensor or a loose mounting. Tracking the magnitude of the drift provides a warning about the health of the monitoring system.
Reliable calibration is essential for maintaining the integrity of the process data.
