Meaning
An industry-standard communication protocol based on the OPC Unified Architecture defines the data exchange interface between injection molding machines and temperature control units. This specification, known as OPC UA Euromap 82.1, governs the digital transmission of temperature setpoints, actual values, and alarm states between the primary controller and peripheral heating units. The standard applies to modern, networked molding cells and excludes legacy machines that use analog voltage signals or hardwired dry contacts.
Data Standardization
Unified data structures ensure that temperature control units from different manufacturers can communicate with any compliant molding machine without custom programming. OPC UA Euromap 82.1 defines a standardized information model that represents the temperature control zones and their operating parameters. This consistency simplifies the integration of auxiliary equipment into the master cell.
Equipment Integration
Setting and monitoring of mold temperatures can be managed directly from the central operator panel of the molding machine. This remote access reduces setup errors by allowing mold temperature profiles to be saved within the tool data file of the machine. The molding cell can automatically adjust peripheral heaters when a new job is loaded.
Digital Production
Real-time monitoring of mold temperatures enables the molding machine to halt production if the temperature deviates from the set tolerance. This automatic reaction prevents the molding of defective parts due to incorrect mold temperatures. Traceability data is also logged to provide a complete history of the thermal conditions of each production run.
