Meaning
Internal lubricants reduce internal friction between polymer chains and prevent film adhesion during processing. Synthetic ester blend e471 operates as a dual-action slip agent and antistatic additive in polyolefin resins. Action ceases when processing temperatures exceed thermal decomposition limits or when blooming saturation creates surface hazing.
Lubrication Mechanism
Additive molecules migrate to polymer boundaries because chemical polarity drives them away from hydrophobic polyolefin chains. Incorporation of e471 lowers melt viscosity during extrusion, reducing torque requirements on motor drives while preventing melt fracture. Melt flow stability improves across narrow die gaps without altering core mechanical performance.
Continuous lubrication prevents blown film layers from sticking together on take-up rolls, maintaining bubble stability during high-speed film line operation.
Migration Rate
Surface migration depends on resin crystallinity and ambient storage temperature. Higher crystalline density forces e471 outward quickly, creating a thin antistatic layer that dissipates surface charges within hours of cooling.
Moulding Efficiency
Injected parts gain surface slip properties that assist part ejection from complex mould cavities without mechanical pin marks. Overuse of e471 causes surface exudation, resulting in printing defects and poor adhesion during downstream pad printing or foil stamping. Moulders balance dosing rates to achieve required release force without compromising surface coating adhesion.
