Meaning
Transducer technology converts mechanical force into a measurable electrical signal during high-speed or varying pressure events. A dynamic load cell is frequently installed in the injection unit or the mould clamp of a press to monitor rapid changes in pressure during the filling and packing phases. These sensors are designed to respond to fluctuations that happen in milliseconds, providing data that static sensors cannot capture.
Signal Response
Precision in high-speed moulding depends on the ability of the sensor to track the peak cavity pressure without signal lag. The dynamic load cell uses piezoelectric or strain gauge elements that are optimized for high frequency response. This allows the controller to trigger the switchover from injection to holding pressure at the exact moment the cavity is full.
Detailed tracking of the pressure curve helps in identifying gate freeze-off and potential short shots before the part is ejected.
Tooling Integration
Placement of the sensor within the mould base or behind an ejector pin requires careful machining to avoid interference with the mechanical action of the tool. A dynamic load cell must be robust enough to withstand millions of cycles while maintaining its calibration under the high thermal loads of the moulding process. If the sensor drifts, the part weight and dimensions will fluctuate, leading to a higher scrap rate.
Data Output
Raw signals from the sensor are processed by the machine controller to generate pressure curves for every cycle.
