Meaning
Data transmission systems send electronic signals from moving sensor components to a static receiver without physical wire connections. In injection moulding, wireless telemetry allows for the continuous monitoring of cavity pressure and temperature from sensors embedded in rotating or sliding mould cores. This technology eliminates the risk of wire breakage during high-speed production runs.
Sensor Integration
Mounting sensors inside moving slides or rotating unscrewing cores represents a mechanical challenge because traditional cables would wrap or break. A wireless transmitter housed within the mould assembly sends the sensor data using radio frequency or infrared signals. This integration is designed to fit within the standard dimensions of the mould base.
Signal Quality
Industrial environments contain considerable electromagnetic noise from heater bands and electric motors that can interfere with data transmission. Using a reliable wireless protocol with error correction ensures that the pressure and temperature signals are received without corruption or delay. This signal integrity is necessary for maintaining the closed-loop control of the injection process.
The transmitter must be shielded from the metallic mass of the mould to maintain a strong signal during operation, as metal surfaces can absorb or reflect the high-frequency radio waves.
Mould Monitoring
Real-time data from the mould cavity is used to adjust processing parameters and detect defects during the moulding cycle. By utilizing a wireless receiver mounted on the machine frame, the processor can collect data from multiple moulds without changing cables. This capability makes it easier to implement across different moulding cells.
