Meaning
Pressure transducer utilizing the electrical properties of quartz crystals provides high-resolution data from within the injection mould. Piezoelectric cavity sensor technology converts the mechanical force of the melt into a measurable charge. This allows for precise monitoring of the conditions that the plastic experiences during the filling and packing stages.
Signal Generation
Pressure applied to the crystal lattice generates an electric potential proportional to the force. Piezoelectric cavity sensor units are installed behind a pin or directly in the cavity wall to capture the rise and fall of pressure. These signals are transmitted to an external monitor that displays the pressure curve for each cycle.
Process Monitoring
Verification of part quality is performed by comparing each shot against a known good master curve. Piezoelectric cavity sensor data can detect subtle changes in melt viscosity or machine performance that traditional sensors might miss. If the peak pressure falls outside a specified range, the system can automatically trigger a reject gate to remove the part from the production stream.
Data Integration
Sophisticated control systems use this information to adjust the machine settings in real time to compensate for material variations. Piezoelectric cavity sensor installations are a common feature of scientific moulding where the focus is on the plastic rather than the machine. This approach reduces the need for manual inspection and provides a digital record for every part produced.
The durability of the quartz element allows the sensor to withstand millions of cycles in high-pressure environments. Because the sensor measures the actual plastic pressure, it is more accurate than monitoring the hydraulic pressure at the injection cylinder.
