Meaning
A specialized signal conditioning instrument converts the high-impedance electrostatic charge generated by quartz mold sensors into a proportional, low-impedance voltage signal. Industrial injection molding networks utilize the piezo charge amplifier to prepare raw sensor signals for transmission to the primary machine controller. This device ensures that the very weak electrical charges from the mold cavity do not degrade over long cable runs.
Charge Conversion
Quartz crystals inside cavity pressure sensors produce a minute charge when compressed by the polymer melt. The piezo charge amplifier houses a capacitive feedback loop that translates this charge into a standard zero-to-ten volt output. This conversion must occur near the mold to prevent electromagnetic noise from distorting the reading.
Drift Mitigation
Electrostatic systems suffer from signal drift over time, which can compromise the accuracy of measurements during long production runs. The piezo charge amplifier uses reset circuits to ground the signal between cycles, establishing a clean zero baseline before each shot occurs. This resetting step keeps the output accurate even when the molding machine operates under severe heat and vibration.
Signal Scaling
Calibration procedures configure the amplification factor to match the specific pressure range of the cavity. Setting this scale correctly prevents signal saturation and maximizes resolution.
