Meaning
Pneumatic support systems with electronic feedback control suppress low-frequency environmental vibrations during high-precision metrology of molded surfaces. An active isolation table employs sensor-actuator loops to counteract floor movements before they can distort sub-nanometer surface measurements. This stabilization prevents noise from masking fine tool marks or polishing scratches on mold inserts.
Vibration Suppression
Internal accelerometers measure incoming floor tremors along multiple axes and trigger proportional responses from electromagnetic actuators. Unlike passive dampers, the active isolation table responds dynamically to force changes. Air bearings support the heavy granite top while the electronic controllers continuously adjust the corrective force to maintain a completely level plane.
Metrology Performance
High-resolution optical profilers require exceptionally quiet environments to resolve surface heights with sub-nanometer precision. Unwanted motion during phase-shifting interferometry introduces phase errors that corrupt the calculated surface topography. Installing an active isolation table reduces the noise floor of the measurement system to a level where the actual surface texture of molded micro-optics can be verified.
This reduction ensures that molders do not reject good parts due to measurement artifacts or accept out-of-specification tooling.
Frequency Boundary
The feedback system operates most effectively against disturbances below ten hertz where passive elastomer mounts lose their effectiveness. High-frequency noise is handled by the passive mass of the granite block. If the table is overloaded or improperly balanced, the control loop can become unstable and introduce oscillation.
