Meaning
Fluid control components regulate oil pressure and flow rate in direct response to variable electrical input signals. A proportional hydraulic valve adjusts the opening of its spool to control the speed and force of the injection ram. This variable positioning replaces the simple on-off behaviour of traditional directional valves.
Flow Regulation
Graduated spool movements allow the controller to ramp up oil delivery smoothly, preventing hydraulic shock in the pipework. The proportional hydraulic valve controls the velocity of the injection screw as it moves through the fill stroke. This capability is essential for managing the melt front as it enters different thicknesses of the cavity.
Dynamic Control
Closed-loop systems continuously read the position of the valve spool and compare it to the target pressure or speed. With a proportional hydraulic valve, the controller modifies the coil current in milliseconds to compensate for changes in oil viscosity or melt resistance. This rapid adjustment ensures that the flow profile remains constant from the first shot of the morning to the last shot of the night.
System Reliability
Contamination in the hydraulic oil can cause the spool of the valve to stick or wear prematurely, degrading the precision of the machine. Implementing high-efficiency bypass filters prevents metal particles and varnish from disrupting the movement of the proportional hydraulic valve assembly. If the valve fails to respond accurately, the shot size will vary, causing sink marks and dimensional instability in the molded parts.
