Meaning
High-frequency sampling involves the capture of sensor signals at intervals shorter than one millisecond to reconstruct transient events within injection moulding cycles. Fast data acquisition maintains the integrity of pressure or temperature curves during the high-speed filling stage of a plastic part. Such resolution prevents the aliasing of peak internal cavity pressures that occur as molten polymer crosses narrow gate geometries.
Accuracy requires a buffer depth sufficient to hold the entire signal array before the transmission to a central processor occurs.
Sampling Frequency
Resolution limits in industrial controllers determine the granularity of the profile captured during the injection phase. Fast data acquisition relies on a scan rate that exceeds the fastest expected physical change by a factor of ten. A scan rate of one kilohertz captures signals during a long packing hold but fails to resolve the pressure spike created when a screw hits the transfer position.
Hardware limitations at the digitiser stage dictate the maximum speed of the signal throughput.
Injection Variance
Deviation in the melt temperature or the screw position alters the output waveform during the rapid transition from filling to packing. Fast data acquisition identifies the start of flashes or short shots by detecting the slope of the pressure curve relative to a master profile. Operators monitor the variance in this curve to separate stable production runs from parts containing internal voids.
Mechanical wear in non-return valves produces subtle changes in the rise time of the pressure signal that slower systems mask.
Processing Throughput
Real-time feedback relies on the ability of the control system to process inputs and return a command within the same cycle. Fast data acquisition generates large packets of raw signal data that fill memory buffers if the communication bus lacks sufficient bandwidth. Proper configuration reduces this volume through edge detection or windowing to ensure that only the critical segments of the pressure profile reach the primary storage.
Efficient handling of these transient signals prevents the lag that renders feedback control ineffective for high-speed automated moulding.
