Meaning
The formal written approval given by a customer to a custom moulder confirms that the first parts produced from a new injection mould meet all dimensional and cosmetic specifications. This T1 sample signoff represents the transition from the tooling development phase to the initial production run. It is granted after a thorough inspection of the test parts, which includes checking dimensions against the 3D CAD model and testing the physical properties of the polymer.
Tool Approval
Approving the first-run samples is a critical step in the tool-build process. During the T1 trial, the mould is run under production conditions to produce a small batch of parts. If these parts have defects like sink marks, warp, or flash, the toolmaker must adjust the steel dimensions or modify the cooling channels.
A successful T1 sample signoff occurs only when these issues are resolved and the parts are certified as compliant.
Quality Validation
Material testing confirms that the polymer is behaving as specified in the material datasheet. Technicians measure shrinkage, strength, and color matching to ensure the resin has not degraded during moulding.
Run Consistency
Achieving approval allows the moulder to begin high-volume manufacturing. The process parameters used during the T1 trial are recorded as the master process sheet for all future runs. This documentation ensures that subsequent parts are produced under the same conditions, minimizing the risk of quality drift.
