Meaning
Oven settings in stretch blow moulding machines establish the thermal distribution across the length and thickness of the polymer shape. This heating configuration technique, known as quartz lamp profiling, adjusts the power output of individual halogen tubes to create a tailored heat pattern along the preform axis. It is used to ensure that sections of the preform stretch at different rates during blowing.
Thermal Distribution
Each zone of the preform requires a specific amount of thermal energy to stretch to its final dimensions. Through quartz lamp profiling, the operator can apply higher temperatures to thick sections and lower temperatures to areas that should not stretch as much. This targeted heating helps prevent common defects such as pearlescence or thin spots on the bottle body.
It represents the primary method for controlling wall thickness in complex container shapes.
Adjustable Control
Modern ovens use multi-zone controllers that adjust the percentage of power supplied to each individual lamp. These adjustments can be made in response to measured changes in ambient temperature or resin grade. This level of control allows for fine adjustments without stopping the production line.
Quality Improvement
Applying a correct profiling configuration minimizes the occurrence of scrap containers due to thermal issues. It also reduces energy consumption by ensuring that only the necessary amount of power is directed to each zone. This balance of quality and efficiency is essential for high-volume production.
